JOE Houde is an educator, designer and consultant specializing in innovative educational design and corporate education.  He has over twenty years of experience in corporate education and is currently writing a book on social networks and leadership.

JOE's expertise lies in connecting content, design and participants. He applies this expertise primarily to programs focusing on strategy, organizational culture, and leadership development. JOE led the design of several Metaphoric ExperiencesÔ  for Duke Corporate Education which use novel contexts to teach business lessons. JOE has used experiences as diverse as photojournalism, basketball, search and rescue, court rooms, golf caddying, spelunking, wine tasting, rocket launching and taiji sparring to teach lessons in leadership, strategy, marketing, sales, communication and professionalism.

Along with facilitating immersive experiences, JOE’s practice includes teaching content face to face and online, coaching action learning teams and personal leadership coaching.  He was one of the first educators to facilitate blended learning in action learning, working with global teams from IBM, Deutsche Bank and Duke University as far back as 1999.  He is certified in multiple feedback instruments and has extensive experience using them in personal coaching. 

JOE has worked with clients across industries including professional services, manufacturing, healthcare and not-for-profit.  He has facilitated and taught in programs in a dozen countries around the world, including countries in South America, Asia and extensive work in Europe. Beyond working with clients, JOE works to progress the field of corporate education and has made presentations on design, leadership and education at world-class institutions such as the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC and IMD, in Lausanne, Switzerland.  For a brief time, JOE worked in the entertainment department on a cruise ship. 

JOE earned a Doctorate of Education in Adult and Organizational Learning and a Masters in Training and Development from North Carolina State University. He was a Drew Scholar at Drew University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Asian Studies.  JOE lives in Durham, North Carolina and spends his spare time playing games with his family and studying Chen style tai chi.
